Just thinking Kerry, You would not need to chop the Fi glass top, But the tank is close ?.
I have fitted Norton Commando bars on my bikes, I love the look of straight bars,
But with age, Things have to change, Or stop riding, So change it is :D .

See if it's poss' to just loosen the pinch bolts, They might twist a bit,
It would be tricky to redo the grooves, But maybe a nats off the side of the bolts,
Put them back in with the fitting in the normal position, Then twist a bit ???.

OR thinking outside the box but under the dash----------

As it is hidden under the dash. Take a piece of 7/8 tubing long enough to clear the mount brackets and weld some say 3/16 thick X 1 in Flat bar on the ends. Now make some outer ends to fit where you want them to be and weld them in place. Make them all in stainless and polish the whole thing up and until someone lifts the dash. who's to know?

Harley boys seem to make some funky bars this way!

I tend to agree with Robert. Custom welded bars would work the best. I just did not see it until you posted the photos. That would do the least damage. The notches in the cowl are a modification.

There seems to be something wrong if the handlebars are in front of the cutout. Remove the cowl and have a good look. Are the bars bent?
