There are 13 Vincents in the auction.
Perhaps the majority of bidders held off to see how that first one would sell.
A good friend of mine who buys and sells bakery equipment told me one of his rules for auction buying- if multiple items of one type are on offer, try to get the first one, it will be the cheapest. If the auction house offers to let the bidder have the rest at this price ( they often do on small stuff), then take the works.
He's learned that most bidders hold off as long as possible, always thinking things will go cheaper at the end. Almost every time it goes the other way!

Glen
That even happens here at the Village Sheep Dog Trials, when the Sheep Farmers sell off some frozen halves of sheep. Get the 1st one for 1/2 what the last one bids for!

The $ 40,700 Comet falls in to the Gypsy's Caravan category. Then there's the wrong horn, wrong speedometer and numerous other nitpicking faults. An ideal machine for some plutocrat's boardroom or temperature controlled man-cave.

Dan's Roarer failed to sell and his AJS V4 sold for $77,500 plus premium. I think he may have been a bit disappointed with that result.

Two Shadows; one went for $70,000 and the other for $112,750. Both plus commission. The latter stated numbers were correct and verified by the VOC while the former had no such declaration.

I noticed lot w156, the Touring Rapide that sold on Wednesday, went thru again today.
Bit higher price this time.
Wonder what occurred there, possibly a no reserve sale that turned into a buyback?

Thanks Steve, I missed the fact the $70K Shadow did not sell. A friend was looking at the MVs and there are some strange numbers there too.

I can confirm, the ($70,000) "Shadow" lot S178 that didn't sell has never been checked by VOC.

Its amazing that some bikes sold and others didn't but not one single bidder contacted either Jon or myself to ask about the numbers on any of the Vincent's for sale at Las Vegas. There appears to be a lot of bidders willing to buy without doing their own due dilegence which is perfectly within their rights, but not how I would buy a Vincent.

Simon I have a few things for you and Jon. I will DM in a bit. Just walked in the door from the flight home.
The $40,700 Comet belonged to Steve McQueen.
Glen
It just had allot of chrome and braided stainless hoses.

I recall reading in the description that it had been owned by Steve McQueen?
Is that incorrect?
