Martyn, The stepped "Norton" spray tube (928/107) is noted to be used with the "Norton" needle (928/104). What needle markings did you say was in your carb?

Spray Tubes Concentric -
622/074 Four stroke Cut straight across
622/075 Two stroke Cut at a slight angle from opposite side
622/123 Trident Cut at angle from mid point
928/107 Norton MKIII (special) Stepped Used with 928/104 needle

and here is needle marking list Concentric—
622/063 1 ring Two stroke used with 622/079 needle jet and 622/080 jet holder (600 series)
622/099 “Y” Alcohol
622/124 2 rings Four stroke used with 622/122 needle jet and 622/128 jet holder (600-900 series)
622/278 5 rings T160 2.725" o.a. (part of the Trident lean kit)
928/063 3 rings Two stroke used with 622/079 needle jet and 622/080 jet holder (900 series)
928/099 “Z” Alcohol

Hi Martyn, Can you post exactly what pieces are in this Amal Premier now?

I'm confused as to why there are parts specific to the mk3 850 Norton shown with a 928 prefix. Tho this is a good sized carb for the Comet, all 850 mk3s came with 932 32 mm carbs not the 28 mm 928?

I dunno, for the Rapide ,I ordered twoPremiere 928s from Jerry Doe, owner of the Norton acces site. I specified slide cutaway and mainjet all else was just baseline specs.
It starts very easily , idles slowly and smoothly, plus gets about 60 mpg (imperial). Pulling power in top gear at low to mid openings is back.
What an improvement!

Thanks for the link Craig, almost too many choices there! Ignorance is bliss in my case, the baseline carbs work beautifully.
Even tho these parts are interchangeable thru the 900 series, I'm still not sure why Burlen uses the 928 prefix for a part developed for the 850 Commando, all of which were fitted with 932carbs (750s used 930s most models, Combats used 932s)

Genuine Amal 260 main jet installed today along with (another) new sparkplug. I have a 1,000 mile trip planned for the weekend of November 30 and will report back after then. I also am still trying to locate a Dyno owner who is willing to cooperate with me.

Martyn
Trip completed - great success, now have almost 2,500 trouble free and fun miles on the motor since the rebuild! Also Dyno session booked for this weekend - will post results after then.
