Hello Bruce,
it looks a bit like belt and braces to me. 20 pounds of crash bars plus a hydraulic damper as well?
On my bike I decided for the hydraulic damper, plus go-faster-holes wherever it is possible and/or makes sense.
Cheers Bernd
Hello Bruce,
That's 9.1 kilos to you, amigo!20 pounds of crash bars
Cheers Bernd
Yes of course you’re right Robert, not quite sure why I thought it depresses the springs but shortens the overall length of the box.Actually Nigel it does not depress the spring any further as the eye bolts thread into the spring claws and have no effect on the spring itself. Think of it as the spring claw being a nut fixed inside the spring box. Screwing the eye bolt up or down the has no effect on the spring just makes the whole assembly longer or shorter.
How often do you see an article about the Comet in Motorcycle magazines etc, it's all Black Shadows, Rapides, Princes, Knights and Black LightningsI met a chap on the coast a few days ago,
Said he had never seen a Comet !, Only knew of Twins !,
Where has He been ?.
I have them fitted to my two Comets and find them very satisfactory though they require some fettling to fit. On my Rapide I have a rolling propstand called a Steib which obviates the problem.I don't see it listed at Spares, must be a limited collector item.
I have a wood block similar to Bruce, but it is becoming more difficult to pick up as I patina.
