Fuel Tank Welding

I wonder how the tapping on the outside didn't harm the paint?
Bruce, when it flakes, you simply superglue it back on . I did that once with some chrome that had peeled, after the brake pedal lever had bent, when the bike went over, that being caused by the stand sinking into some soft tarmac. It`s probably still that way now, I think that was about 1982.

While we are on tank repairs I posted some time back whether anyone knew of a lateral weld across both tank sides but did not post a photo. Here now is the picture of my tank when in pieces of the seam running both sides full length of the tank. Was it a repair or is this how they were made in the 50's? Last time round comment was no one knew.

I would say it`s the norm for them all, The weld has been fully dressed on the inside, so it`s not too noticeable to a casual glance. I have one apart to look at.

Very interesting, thank you for posting this.
I tried to slow down the utube film at the point where he takes out the tool.
Does it have a point like a ball-pen ? e.g. a small roller at the end ?
