Valve noise

The other day, I checked my carb sync and whilst doing that I noticed a distinct tap from the front carb intake which chuffs unlike the rear which hisses. I let the bike cool overnight and checked the valve clearances this morning. They were OK but I reset them just to be sure but still have the noise. I did notice that the inlet rocker has about 6 thou side play, measured with a feeler gauge. The bike is a 55 rapide with amal monoblocks and has done about 2000 miles since being rebuilt. Sorry forgot to mention that the other rockers have much lest side play.

you sure its not the carb slide rattling, with it ticking over try pushing the slide forwards to eliminate movement.
but dont block the intake cutaway.
