Late last year the odometer stopped working, though the speedo part still works..Are there any lubrication points that might be the cause of the problem?...Or should I simply send the unit to a specialist- are there any in North America?
Bob,
there are no lubrication points.
The speedo mechanism is seperate from the mileage recorders.
If both the odometer and trip have stopped working, then the brass gear driven from the worm has probably stripped. If the trip is still working, then I would suspect the pawl that drives the odometer wheel has worn, in which case it's edge could be re-profiled by filing.
Speedos are a lot easier to do than explain what to do!
Cheers,
Paul.
Bob, if you need a specialist, I can recommend Dave Sauerberg in Lethbridge. He bought out the old SMITHS shop in Toronto, and does first class work. I do not have contact info handy as I am on the road, but if you want it, email me at howard.smith@shaw.ca and I will get back to you in a week or so.
Howie.
