Series D RFM Pivot Casting

In KTB Chapter 3, Section II Series D (Third Edition Page 55 or Fourth Edition Page 60), there is a paragraph relating to a machining error on some Series D machines, making correct wheel alignment difficult to achieve, and requiring moving the RFM to the right by cunning placement of shims and a thinner E80 nut, and in extreme cases by dishing the wheel when you build it.
Although I have not noticed any great difficulty in aligning my wheels (nowadays I use a pair of lasers mounted on planks), I would be interested to know if there is any way to recognize if one has such a mis-machined RFM, perhaps by frame number, or by casting number, or by measuring the depth of the bearing housing, or......
Does anyone have one of these RFMs, what is the effect on the handling, how big is the machining error and exactly where is it ?
