Sorry but we have not the foggiest as to why the chain broke, strange how it broke on the return run and not the power side, but hey it does mean that the engine repairs will be reasonable cheap (no burst cases) though the gear box main shaft may need replacing, It got damaged by the home made puller pushing on it, but appart from that just the chain and clutch sprocket to replace.
I am sorry to say that when she is repaired and put back into a reasonable condition, she will be offered up for sale, to big a scare and not willing in spending more time and money keeping the old girl running, someone else can have that honour. genuine 1949 C rapide with matching frame and engine numbers, HRD engine and polished off covers
