Smoke / Carbon Monoxide combo detectors are what we have. They all get new batteries on Jan 1 every year or when they start chirping, which ever comes first. I also write the date I install them on the back and replace them every 5 years.
The living room and the bathroom are the only rooms in the house that we don't have any in. I have one in the hall and three in the basement.

That's cool. Is that for new construction only or do you have to retrofit? We had talked about seeing if we could get A.C. powered ones.
