Regarding rear wheel removal, I've followed the handbook but I'm unable to slip the chain over the brake cam arm.
This is all that's stopping the wheel coming out.

I find that I have to push the wheel as far forward as possible, to make it easier to slip the chain over the brake arm.

Coppaslip didn't seem to help keep them free either. Maybe this reacts with alloy too

Tef-Gel is the stuff used for marine hardware. It may be cheaper to replace the items every year, but builders say Tef-Gel is the best by a lot. I use it for stainless hardware and spindles in aluminum, not on the threads, but the contact area.

Thanks. Didn't have any alluminium bar so I used a nut and a couple of washers as a spacer. It's all back now and the
mudguard is firm and not under stress.
Thanks for the help.

That takes more tools.

Other than possibly loosening the brake adjusters if there is not enough slack to get the doohickey out of the brake arm, no other settings are changed. But that has nothing to do with the chain.

It also helps to rotate the brake plates, putting the brake arm closer to the ground.
