Misc: Ignition Rapide Distributor Modification

Excuse my ignorance.
I have been re commissioning a Rapide that has a distributor modification. Looking at the points backplate I see the points placed at 180 deg apart.
The V twin is a 55 deg. Surely the points should be placed at 27.5 deg apart, or separated by 27.5 deg.
Originally a magneto, this uses one cam ring for both cylinders, is it a different magneto to say a BSA or Triumph?
Very puzzled.

Maybe a photo would help ?.

Many years ago I bought a Mag from a top Mag bloke In London,
At home my brother was turning it over in his hand and said,
This don't look right ?,
It was Triumph Cam Ring !.

I think the firing on a Vincent is 205 degrees and 155 ?.
Don't forget it's half engine speed ?.

If it is using two sets of points they should be at 180 plus or minus 25 degrees, depends which you're looking at.

What kind of cam does that use Chris ?,
Is it a wasted spark ?.
I tried to see what the Dolphin thing I once had ,
But the photo does not show end on.

It would just use a single cam, the two sets of points giving the correct timing, I have a single cam/twin sets of points set up on my Norvin (uses ATD rather than a distributer though) Also the same on one of my Harleys

That's a strange way of putting it , 205 ---- 155 Degrees
But Half engine speed--------------102.5----77.5-- =25 degrees ????,

I thought my "D" Distributor was strange with a single 2 outlet Coil = Wasted Spark !.
My head hurts, Not good at this stuff !.

Back to School for me .

I used to have a "Jolly Thresher Garage" coil ignition set, that they used to sell. That used a Norton [I think?] baseplate and two sets of points. I THINK the points were opposite each other, but the cam was ground with the firing points and worked on the wasted spark principle. Mind you, that's all from faded memory.
BUT, it was 45-odd years ago!
Aaaargh! Really?
