Thanks passenger0_0 for the explanation. I guess that I have been lucky as either the rings I have fitted have all been well made or I have failed to notice the flaws and they have bedded in very quickly. Always good to learn something new.

Just a furthers questions came to my mind. David, how much clearance did you put a the bottom of the skirt ? 0.004' ? 0.006' ?
And the rings gap ? 0.025' - 0.030' ?
My mechanical guy also advise me to change my cylinder liners, but I can't find in my books what are the cylinder liners outside dimension, to know if I order a standard or oversize barrel.

There should be a six thou interference fit between the liner and the muff, Many of the old muffs have now stretched and I think that you will find that various Vincent spares people now can supply larger outer diameter liners which can have the muffs machined to fit.
