I still recall laughing fit to fall off the Crapper at "Flaherty will get you Nowhere", "Just a Lad of Eighteen Summers" and the Welsh Joke in "Reluctant Heroes". Funny, I recall bugger-all about Vincents, but that man was truly memorable. I recommend younger readers look him up in old M.P.H.'s.
He was a Lovely man and a Great Friend to me. He Loved his bikes and thrashed them. He owned many bikes and once gave me a Rare Ariel 1931 "Sloper" I never did get it going and eventually sold it and my Berkeley T60 three-wheeler to buy a Ford Capri as a Tow car for my racing.

Bill at one time was given a serious health warning about his drinking and smoking. He stopped both and it worked wonders. Photo attached.
Many moons ago I was going to race Bills Rapide at Cadwell and had got it "flying". Unknown to me he then took it out for a blast, a couple of days before the meeting, where the performance was severely Lacking. Being Bill, He had Thrashed it and probably bent a valve.

He was probably his own model for "Thrasher Gunge" who appeared in some of his wonderful tales.
