Hi to all, Finally got myself a VINCENT!!!!! I just purchased a 1951 Comet and need a little advice:
Can anyone tell me where to get a parts manual, and if there are different ones available, which is the best to purchase?
And "as above" but with respect to a maintenance/overhaul manual, I have been told to buy "Know thy Beast" and another that I cannot remember?

Much thanks in advance
Kevin

See http://www.vincentspares.co.uk/acatalog/publication.html and http://www.shop.vintech.co.uk/acatalog/CATALOGUE_Books_2.html

Get Riders Handbook, Series 'B' & 'C' Spares List, Vincent Motorcycles ( Third Edition ) - Paul Richardson, and Know Thy Beast - E.M.G.Stevens New 4th Edition
These are also very useful: Series 'B' 'C' & 'D' Instruction Sheets, "40 YEARS ON" - JEFF BOWEN, "ANOTHER TEN YEARS" - JEFF BOWEN,

More good info at

Buy all the books listed above...but don't forget the wealth of knowledge gained over the years by fellow COMET owners. By the way twins are not twice as good as a COMET:rolleyes:..John

Also be aware that depending on which edition of all the listed books you buy, there are errors.I am not sure if someone has made a list of all the errors in the spare parts list but my old Harper edition has many pen & pencil corrections.

I can't comment on the parts list but the latest editions of Richardson & KTB seem to be virtually error free. It is nice to have 1st editions as long as they stay in the library and are not used to assist in the assembly of a Vincent.. Mercifully I have had no need to refer to most of the tomes recently.

Dear Kevin,
You don't say if your Comet is in one piece or if you have to assemble it. Get hold of the publications that others have mentioned. You will have hours of reading and the more you read the better you will begin to understand your Vincent. To get you started the parts drawings are available on line at:

http://www.voc.uk.com/sparesdraw.php

There is also a spare parts list at:

http://www.voc.uk.com/sparesparts.php

It saves a lot of head scratching if you have a drawing to look at when you are following a text description.

Parts list and drawings innaccuracies.

I have found a list of some corrections that I have had on file for a while. I didn't compile them and have not checked them for accuracy so they are provided as is and hope they may prove useful.
They are available in the Downloads > Public Access: Misc Public Documents > listed as: Omission and inaccuracies from parts drawings-1.pdf and Omission and inaccuracies from parts drawings-2.pdf
