I found that I have to use a mk3 Commando kickstart to clear the exhaust and the folded rear set foot peg on my Dunfey framed Comet. It has a '71 Commando box. Getting the crank positioned on the spline so it clears everything, allows a good foot position, and doesn't interfere with the Dunstall type shifter is very finicky. The front pipe is a "standard" one I got from Coventry spares. This might be a result of making all the plates a bit thicker than standard Comet plates, pushing out the exhaust mounting. I am wondering what the rumored Comet electric start looks like and if it will work on a Comet special.

Here is the folding footrest assembly the crank clears it by 1/8" and the gearchange lever is only 5/16" wide
even Twiggy could not get thinner
so I dont know if 3943 will clear it perhaps I will just try the recommended foot movements

Tim,
If I remember correctly the K/S shaft is the same even going back to the old "Dolls Head" boxes, so you could always fit a shaft from one of the old style boxes.
If you fancy a drive over 1 weekend you could have a rummage in my spares box
