One reason (among others) for not using "R" in a road bike is you can't buy a can to top up with in the middle of rural France on an extended tour. Also I was not "suggesting" "R" as an upper cylinder lube, simply saying that is a way to get the smell. So I am not misunderstood on the other point, I am NOT suggesting that you use any old rubbish or drained oil in your Vin either, simply that my old Land Rover carried on regardless. OK?
