That sounds like something the Brits call a "sprag-clutch". Lots of applications - such as electric starts. But I can't see any use for it though on the tiny Series 'A' Miller Dyno-Mag.

My A is fitted with a standard Miller mag-dyno which works ok but only balances the lights at high speed. It’s only got an 18W headlight bulb, 3W rear and 1.5W which draws about 4A in total. The dynamo should generate 6-6.5A so should balance the load easily. I’ve adjusted the third brush as close to the positive brush as I dare to maximise the output. Any other tips and tricks to get more power? Also anyone know what the half charge resistance should be and/or what length and gauge of wire it should be?
