G: Gearbox (Single - Burman) Main shaft

Why is there a collar on Pic 1 main shaft ? ( Computor does`nt like Mainshaft )
Pic 2 shows damage to the lick start end.

The collar pictured has no function, but if it is tight then you may as well leave it there. As long as both shafts are 11.3" long they are interchangeable, bearing in mind the smaller diameter thread, 1/2" x 20 t.p.i. on the kickstart end. If it is the same i.d. as the clutch hub boss, 1.1875" x 1.675" x .250" for memory, then it may be the inner roller race that belongs between the two hardened washers PR50-36X-3 and PR50- 36X-2. Upon assembly the thicker one is innermost and the 24 rollers are only 6mm. long. I don't lick my Comet to start it!
