I also second the Sledge rack in Know Thy Beast. Look at my avatar to see what you can carry on one. Mine was fitted with modern Givi panniers and top box. The photo is me setting off on a seven week trip to Turkey :)

I fitted a fully articulated Craven carrier to my Rapide, then adapted Buco fiberglass bags. They move around a lot. Last summer I went into town and picked up a couple of really fantastic barbecue sandwiches from a local establishment, putting them in the bags for the trip home. Have you ever been hungry enough to eat a demolished barbecue sandwich scraped out of the bottom of your luggage while trying to avoid the soggy paper bag bits? I have....

Craven golden arrow panniers on a one off well engineered frame. They will soon be in mph classifieds if anyone is interested. I imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to alter things to support a D fixed seat? Worked well for me to the Int. Rally. Hinged on the bottom
