I've just updated the photograph with a much better resolution version that William Edgar has very kindly supplied.

William tells us that the photograph is obviously his father John standing next to the JEL on 8th September 1948. William shot this photograph with his Rolleiflex camera when the family was living across the street (in the background) at the Garden of Allah Hotel in Hollywood.

All the images of that bike always show a horizontal carb and vertical float chamber, so I presume works fitted.

hey my A twin has a horizontal front carb, does that make it a ------- nah who would want one of those!

Also no manifolds, the carb's mount direct to the cylinder head.

Both carbs horizontal on that bike with a special adaptor made by Phil irving for the front bowl attachment.

Wouldn’t both carbs need a special adapter for the float bowl?

Correct, both bowls done similar.....How does one set the correct float height.......now that is the 10,000 dollar question.......And.......Just because the level was correct years ago, doesn't mean it is now.

Factory records for this bike list the carbs as "1 3/16" 10TT carbs". Nothing else is mentioned about them.
