I believe on very early Girdraulics the long cable followed Brampton practice and went to the right. Owing to the juxtaposition of the handlebar lever and the right end of the balance beam this meant the cable had to curve in two plains, i.e. downwards and forward. This was changed to the crossover arrangement which only required a single downward curve. There are no convenient spaces in Girdraulic fork legs.
