Just wondered if anyone knows who V R might have been. The wheels from /1997 have been with the bike since at least 1955 and as all the bike was there (in pieces) I think it is safe to assume that they came with the bike.

I am just cleaning and repainting the black and red stripes but found this, I am guessing that perhaps he was a factory wheel builder??

It appears to me that the VR was punched onto the rim prior to the plating process, if that is the case I would suggest it is there to denote "Vincent Rim" and probably to identify the piercing angles.

Frank Griffin said that for some period, Dunlop rims were stamped VF [Vincent Front] and VR [Vincent Rear]. I don't know his source of this info'. It may have been Eddie Stevens?

They would have needed a way to differentiate Vin rims from those for Velos.

Found same on my rear original rim.
Had taken it to be Vincent Rear.

Except appears to have come with 19 and 18 rims and that is the 19 front.......

Back to VF and VR denoting front and rear, just been up in my loft to check, this is a WM1-20:-
