An old friend of mine is rebuilding a D he has the correct DKX distributor but is looking for a 50 deg cam any clues where to look?

Been there, done that, dam near impossible, I would keep an eye out on Ebay for a knackered distributor going cheap, just to get the cam, I doubt he will find one from any of the specialist ignition suppliers, I tried without any success at all.

I wonder if VOCSC has looked into new ones? Would a lot of 180deg and single distributors become usable if proper cams were available? Are automobile distributors adaptable?

. . . . posted some time ago, a Saab distributor would be an easy job. Problem is, most car types got wrong sense of rotation, so the Saab is one suitable for a Vincent and the ATD on the breaker end will be a lot more reliable than that dreaded ATD in the drive gear. The breaker would drive only a twin coil by two lobes for a 50 degree v-twin, no distributor cap for ht wires.
For modding the cams of the Saab any d-bit grinder in a toolroom will do it no problem, degree disc and collets on these standard. But yes, you´d have to fabricate a flange for the distri for mounting it on the engine - a nice lathe job for anybody taking pride on that sort of activity . . .

Well maybe, but what would be the demand with all the other ignition options available.
Agreed.
I pulled my DKX2A and replaced it with a Tri-Spark--that is a nice ignition system. I recently installed another Tri-Spark on a friend's C Rapide build.
