'49 Comet timing chest

Looking through " Riders Handbook" and 'Vincent " by P. Richardson books, I couldn't find any info on whether or not there should be oil ( or how much )in the timing chest, I thought their should be, your advice please:eek: Jonathan

Hi Jonathon,
There is no oil per say within the timing chest, other than what is supplied via the transfer ports to the cam feed, cylinder wall, big end, and what drips down the pushrod tubes.

Also if you had oil in the timing chest it would go through the openings back into the area of the crank!;)
