I stick my Vincent wheels in a big bench vice
Job done
Spent many hours in Rons workshop a few miles from me but that work mate trick never rubbed off on me

Another way to support the wheels for setting wheel bearings is if you have a motorcycle ramp with a wheel clamp is to simply remove the wheel and mount it in said clamp, with the bench below to have tools, shims etc ready to hand you can make adjustments without straining your back, happy days! My method for bearing end float is to trim a two thou feeler gauge into two strips just wide enough to slid between the rollers and cage, all lightly oiled and add/remove shims as required, done right l finish up with barely perceptible play at the rim, then a final assembly grease to finish, just my method, but seems to do the job. Ramp in use otherwise a picture would have been posted, good luck!

Try and find a grease that is quite thick, modern wheel bearing grease is very thin and almost runny, tries it's best to get out and onto the brake linings, not good.
