Mounting the timing disc. Luckily my wife is a keen knitter ( no, she did not knit a timing disc) and a section of discarded No. 12 plastic needle is perfect. It has a nice long taper, smooth so cannot score or scratch and will take a self tapping screw for the disc, or if you prefer will allow a tapped thread. Been used for many years with no probs.

Just reading the stuff about timing degree discs having acquired a non-running Comet (swine thing!) and my stepson came up with a good idea this afternnon - use the long threaded rod from the battery bracketry!! Threaded both ends and just right to insert gently into the quill and use the small nut and large knurled ring to sandwich the degree disc. Wind some wire around the footrest chromed vertical mount and tape in place. Great!!

I found that a bamboo chop stick makes a great tapered shaft to mount a degree wheel then press fit into the quill port
