I enjoyed the final Purple Helmets show in England at the Farmyard Rally in Helmsley. I have had the pleasure of late night early morning socials over the years on the rock including an after hours tour of hostelries around the island. Bikes were only ridden in doors after some lemonade and only the air quality and flooring suffered at each stop. The helmets have had many famous members in the team over the years including many famous TT riders/winners including some of our lost racing heroes. The helmets were made up of a changing line up including quite a few star riders from the road and off-road racing. They also notably represented the Isle of Man in the ISDT Enduro world championship European rounds. Main sponsor from memory was Buckfast Wine. Yes they did ride their C90s in the main event and wore the famous trench coats in the blistering heat. There humor and indoor trials riding skills including the annual pub stair climbing antics perched on their famous sleds will be missed in the pubs around the course.. But not by the Island landlords.... They can rest easy now knowing their new flooring is safe from the indoor antics. Great bunch of lads. I have a feeling we have not heard the last of the Purple Helmets. Al
