Tim, Marie Webber used to run the Ladies section. When she started to struggle I stepped in to help her. We sent out letters to every section, aimed at the ladies, to see what would interest people etc - we only had one reply
from the entire membership! At that point we gave up, unfortunately.
There was a time when some of the ladies got together at rallies to work on VOC commemorative banners but that appeared to be a “closed shop” for a certain clique of ladies - no-one else knew what was going on and when seen at rallies it was very much a case of “we don’t want you coming near us”.
I’m afraid the VOC still has the old fashioned inclinations that the men are interested and the women are just there to tag along.
Incidentally, my Mum knitted those 1987 International jumpers for my folks and I and we still have them as a reminder of our trip to the Dutch leg. Oddly mine no longer fits……but I was only 12 at the time
