If you count all the coils you may need to subtract 1.5 coils to arrive at the "active" number of coils. Thus, each end of the coil spring that is flattened and ground is not counted as an active coil for 3/4 of its length (this formula may vary a bit). Any coils that are close enough to touch each other after a very small amount of movement will become inactive after they touch and bump up the stiffness of the spring.</p><p></p><p>David</p></blockquote><p></p>
