Incorrect machining of D RFM

I have a vague memory of reading somewhere that some late Series D RFMs were badly machined in the bearing housing area, so that the RFM was not central between its mounting plates. Also mentioned was a way of rectifying the situation.
Can anyone remember where I read it, or supply the info?

Measure and start shimming.

Provided there is no bearing play and the wheels are in line (check with string or a plank) you do not have a problem.

This problem with some of the D RFM pivot bearing housings is discussed in Know Thy Beast, 4th edition, p. 60.
