When doing a leak down test what is the best way to keep the engine from turning? It's in 4th gear and the wheel is stopped so the clutch must be slipping. This tells me that the leak down rate must be pretty good but I'd like to do a proper test and not just guess that's good. The tester is at 90-100 #

I checked the ATD and it's OK, I was thinking that I should try using a lower octane gasoline and see if that helps. I am using a 92 octane gas now.

Steve,

The way I do a leakdown test on a Vincent is to remove the valve adjuster mechanisms and take the pushrods out. This way the valves stay closed no matter where the pistons end up. I am not certain that a lower octane will help, but there is little harm in trying.
