However an even better solution for the 16+ year olds , and for oldies as well, is the one we have adopted for the last 4 years or so, an electric bicycle (NOT a motorbicycle) for short(er) distances. It is smaller, lighter, healthier. When the going is easy you pedal. if you need a bit of help uphill, switch on the electric motor. We have very efficient folding bicycles and an even more efficient after market electrical system, called CYTRONEX. Although an unfit 84 year old I can cover perhaps 200/300 miles of mixed going before the battery needs charging. (assuming I do my fair share of pedalling) I only charge the battery, around once a month so it should last my lifetime. Cytronex system has 5 levels of motorised assistance, all easily operated .Level one gives only a little help (AND you have to keep pedalling ) and level 5 will take you up the steepest hills (providing you just keep turning the pedals, no real effort) I f you should run out of power on a journey. fold the bike up put the battery in the rucksac/bike bag.and get the train or bus. Cytronex levels of assistance are programmable by the owner and problems if any sorted out by remote problem solving by the manufacturer. Switch on the system, describe the fault on phone/tablet/laptop.hold the phone close to the system, and send. Repair usually comes straight back. All this and I am a complete computer moron! [QUOTE="Colin, post: 158535, member: 1953"] H i Calle I fully agree with all the points you make. However an even better solution for the 16+ year olds , and for oldies as well, is the one we have adopted for the last 4 years or so, an electric bicycle (NOT a motorbicycle) for short(er) distances.
