I have a Rapide with a 12v system and an early Alton generator. If I let the bike sit for a few days, the battery seems to draw off slightly, and the bike will charge at 4-5 amps for 50 or more miles next time I ride it. Could this be a regulator problem? Thank you.

I read somewhere on this site that all early Alton regulators were 'leaky', and allowed a small current to flow back through the alternator when it wasn't spinning. Apparently the later regulators don't do this. Why not contact Alton and see if you can trade it in for a new one; on the grounds that it is a design flaw. Worth a try. No harm in asking.
