E: Engine comet lifter cable

Could anybody tell me how to replace exhaust lifter cable on a 52 comet,it has come adrift from the nipple at the engine end, it seems to be difficult to get at, any advice gratefully received,thank you.

If the set-up is standard you need a 1/4" diameter, or slightly less, rod to poke out the old nipple. To get to it, pull the outer cable back from the abutment ET172/2, then pull the abutment over the inner cable via its slot. Then you can slide back the tube ET168 as much as the space allows.It is bloody difficult to get at, I agree.To re-fit, deal with the motor end first. I use a device like an old table fork to work the cable in to the handlebar lever on the exhaust stroke. The modified cables with the adjustment at the lower end are a better plan than the originals.Drawing M013 is some help.
