Hi Russ, I beg to differ..... Hi Russ, I didn't say anything about money either so we are quits (beyond quoting the price of joining the club). It's not about money - it's about there being a compelling reason or reasons to join. Remember that we don't know if all VOC members register as such on the Forum. I don't agree with your argument on "younger" (relative to "older") members - you bought a Shadow recently and paid a higher price than many VOC owners will have. I bought a Rapide last year at what I think was a fair market price. Where's there are two of us, I'd suggest there are more and unless the VOC embraces and then actively encourages this, then personally I don't hold out too much hope for the future of the the club, the marque or the people who make a living out the either/both. You are a great ambassador for the VOC and Vincent Ownership, I'd like to think I am too - there are more people like us out there and the Club must attract them to survive long term. Sure there are people in it for the money only, I read in a Car Magazine only last month that Car Dealers are moving into bikes as the margins and appreciation are better - they had a picture of the VOC Shadow in the article - but that's life. They're not the only buyers though. I suggested people read the objects of the club - in my view wide open Forum membership and posting rights deliver these objects 100%. Restricting it to members only does not. I don't think that higher prices will prevent younger members at all. Like all things in life it may make it more difficult for them, might influence the type of younger members we get, might force us to adjust our thoughts about what constitues a "younger" member but there will still be younger people interested in all things Vincent. Some of those will aspire to owning one and some of those will get to the point where they can fulfill that desire - I'd like the Forum to be one way that we help and encourage that. I vote for continuing to welcome, inspire, encourage, assist and be generally friendly to them. If the odd one misbehaves, then take them out - but don't set the rules for the minority. As for getting me in trouble - well I'm big enough to cope I guess - and the learning is that it will teach me to check my own facts and writing better, so I'll wear a hair shirt and blame myself. Writing something that is not factually correct is not acceptable, even if it was in genuine error. I don't accept it at work so won't condone it from myself. Interestingly I had just two (that's 2!!) e-mails on the MPH column. One said "well done" and the other said "you're wrong" - so on balance it's a 50/50 call!!!! Oh - and for those of the Forum who are for restricted membership - well the non-member decided (having read this thread and others) that this is not a club he wanted to join anyway and has conformed to your request to "sod off". He won't be joining the club, visiting a section or providing the details of his Vincent to the register. Personally - I think that is a great shame and the VOC is the poorer for it. He might even have had a tattoo. Coming back to your note, the point I am obviously really missing here is why is it a bad thing to have the balance of postings in favour of non-members? Yes, we should encourage VOC members to use the Forum, I'm a huge supporter of that - but we need to face the fact that many of them do not have a computer, don't have access to a computer, don't want to get involved in a computer - so until the age profile of the club changes (and surely it will) then that will only change around the edges? We can be a mid-period adopter or wait till things overtake us. I vote to leave things as they are. Cheers to all Stuart
