As of Jan 5th, 30 people have lost their lives, 288 separate fires are still raging, over 6.6 million hectares burnt – that’s an area larger than the entire UK and over 1,800 homes destroyed. The loss of livestock and wild life is incalculable. Hotter weather and increased fire risk is forecast.
