Planning a UK visit from the USA

Its been awhile since I have visited the forum. My father Big Sid was a passionate enthusiast and when he died in 2013, I found it hard to focus on Vincents. But time heals wounds. In any case, I am thinking about a visit to the UK this summer. I thought I might post here to see if I might strike up a correspondence with a VOC member or two who lives in the UK who might be able to offer some advice.

thanks

Matthew....my advice is to plan your trip, then see if there are Vincent folks in that ( those?) areas...We have enjoyed wonderful hospitality and great camaraderie both times we have gone recently.
If I can help you in any way - please don't hesitate to ask!

As an ex-pat Brit living in Chicago for the last 18 years. Here's a tip that most American's visiting the UK miss out on - or at least that's my opinion. If you're not hooked up with somewhere to stay through the VOC or aquantances then don't stay in hotels ! Use the excellent B&B that abound in all the great places you'd want to visit. Lots of homes with character and history which can be far far more fun than the Holiday Inn etc. Bit more risk to it of a LandLord with 'character' or bed that's seen better days, so apologies in advance if you don't get lucky. My wife and I B&B'd in historic towns of interest for our wedding anniversary trips.

There's books and info. on-line.

I agree with the B&B suggestion, but my experience in staying in this type of accommodation has been in the north of England, Isle of Man and Scotland. We have never been disappointed, but do your research and book in advance.

Taking pot luck can be tricky in peak holiday times, or when there is a big local event going on.
