IMHO, the performance of a brake should not be determined by the (lack of) friction between brake linings and drums but by the friction between road and tire. In other words, brakes can hardly perform too good. (but can be too aggressive). So I changed the original brake of my recently acquired Rapide by the Vincent Speet 4 LS.
Looks good and works amazingly good !
Small detail: I used the original balance beam brake adjusters for the look but didn't want to drill them out, so I made two small bushes and cut the outher cable.

Thanks Vincent Speet !

thanks...upon double checking I did, in fact purchase Timken locally...the non-Timken bearings are for my other bike. I cuurently use the nilos seals ..so I will order the brass seals from V.Speet...

Apart from the aforementioned modifications to the lower fender stay and the speedo drive gear, are there any other modifications that are required?

Congratulations Collingsbob. Of course, it all depends upon your skills but together with all the parts you've got, you should have got detailed instructions in the box. The most difficult part is probably to remove the inner racings of the bearings but Vincent explains in his instructions the old trick how to remove those. Run a weld bead on the inner races and they'll fall out when cooling down. Good luck.
