Bill on two occasions recently has done something very similar with me. I found his attitude less than savoury when asked politely why he would do such a thing.

I will share nothing with him in the future. Let future people be warned. If you want something kept private don’t mention it.

I don't really want to jump in the way of a large crowd of angry villagers with torches, but I when I read the blurb in the AMCA I had a good idea about exactly what happened. In a phone call to Bill pertaining to other items, Bill mentioned how he made the mistake and confirmed what I suspected.

Bill had been making efforts to locate the bike through some long time members of the AMCA and some long time Vincent owners. This was totally separate from and prior to Simon's endeavors. Having called off the search, Bill believed the AMCA publication date of his conversations with them were after the MPH publication date. It was not.

I have not been subjected to any malicious conduct from Bill. I have found him to be very straight forward. However, If I were to believe Bill is responsible for the malicious conduct reported in this post I should think that executive action regarding expulsion would be necessary.

I think it would be more productive to make the case to the Executive Committee rather than the general public who read these posts.

Bill and I have talked via email about the issues / concerns I had pertaining to some things that were shared between us. I was however wanting to point out that although these may have been innocent. These things occurred with a short time frame of one another. Maybe you can talk to bill about why these things have occurred. I appreciate his excitement about black lightenings but jumping in ahead of Simon is not right.

I have been a fan of his work in mph. I just won’t share information any more.

I would eagerly say that I have dealt with Bill and I have dealt with Eugene and both were perfect gentleman. I can say the same about Simon and Bill. However, what I see in several of the posts is a willingness to presume ill will towards members by Bill or self promotion on Bill's part. If that is the case this can be remedied by the Club.

David, Simon, Graham, Eugene et al. What we have here is not really a MAJOR incident. What it is though is a disrespect. I believe that Bill should have taken certain steps to make sure he did not step on Simon's toes. In future it may be prudent for Bill to to have a conversation with other parties before dealing with editors and publishers. If I was Simon I would be livid and let Bill know in no uncertain terms. Seniority does not have these privileges automatically conferred and Bill should be admonished by the executive for a breach of privilege. At the end of the day what was a one or two month delay after all of these years?

The increasing value of these old bikes is guilty for many things but in this case I think it would apply if the subject was about prempting a story about a discovered piece of lace that once was on the hem of Queen Victoria's Knickers.

I find it difficult to think Bill would intentionally leak news for personal gain.
Do we know who actually wrote the article?

I have personally known Bill for nearly 12 years since becoming MPH Editor. During this time, Bill and his wife have visited me and Sally at home and had dinner with us. We regularly communicate by e-mail and occasionally by telephone.

I can say without hesitation, Bill is honest, trustworthy and always goes out of his way to protect the identity of sources of information, should that source request it. He is a big supporter of the VOC.

I have absolutely no doubt that the cross-over of dates is not what Bill would have wanted.
