How about looking at the categories on the VOC spares company website and using something similar. It seems to work for them.

I'm not entirely convinced that just following what the Spares Company have done is the best idea that would suit us.

I'd rather have a system/tree that works well for us, bearing in mind we may have many more categories than they've given thought to.
