Good evening, when removing the clutch on my D in order to get into the gearbox I’ve found remains of a rubber seal (or 2) I don’t have a parts diagram for the D so can someone please tell me the part numbers and where fitted of any seals on the D clutch/ clutch shaft.

Hello Norm', This is my "D" parts book,
the seal C18/2 I think was an alloy ring with a rubber in it ?,
I think C20/1 was different length ?. on the "D".

On a "C" the seal was C18/1.
I know over the years I have put all sorts of rubber rings and things in there,
Plus Red Hermetite on the splines etc.
Good luck, Bill.

Hi Norm, the D seal is an O ring and it is possible to fit two seals, this helps because there is axial as well as radial pressure when the nut C20 is tightened. Alternatively an aluminium ring can be turned and fitted behind the O
Hi Stu, isn't it mandatory to fit two C18/2 orings to get the compression needed to seal?

Well I recently had mine apart and fitted two O rings. I just did got some that fit snugly, not by part number. No oil is getting in.

If you change the Bushes in the chain wheel,
There are some strange ones about,
Some are too loose in the wheel and some are too long,
If too long it locks the clutch up !!, when the end nut is done up tight
So check that the wheel spins free and has end float, On the boss of C3 !!.
Cheers Bill.

Richardson has a detailed diagram. Instruction sheets are worth a read. KTB is also informative. Make sure the nut has a large enough recess to take the O ring. Mine did not.
