How are they different?
With a magnetic cable the end of the inner cable that goes into the speedo head is too long so when the nut is tightened the inner cable will damage the delicate needle mechanism. The damage will not affect the odometer.
From memory the end of the inner cable that project into the head must not exceed 7/16" for a chrono speedo. It's sensibly longer on a magnetic speedo cable.
I think there was a warning sticker on the back of instruments repaired by the Woods and others.

The sticker says "Don't use a magnetic cable on a chronometric instrument" or something like that.
Check out with cable supplier like Venhill or Johnson Cables.

Surprisingly took the bike out for a 100 mile run today and everything worked as it should so thanks for the helpful suggestions the only new thing I did was to oil a few drops the new cable and to tighten top end to speedo body with a pair of grips.

Thanks guys
