For your interest my standard seat at widest rider position before seam was 3-3/4" top curve of seat to seat bottom and the new 4" more spares company seat was 4-1/2" .In deference to Angelas comfort and my short legs I have taken it to my upholsterer who will reduce the rider position to 3-3/4 but maintain the pillions height I suppose it will be a bit velocette touring like. when complete I will post photos.
PS. I wonder if that constitutes "substantial modification" to the DVLA?

Here is my modified extended seat from Vincent Spares I have added a couple of lines on the photo as the tank bag prevents me lining it up exactly but the rider portion depth is now more in keeping with the standard seat and the pillion position has a bit more depth

Tim, I have a similar problem with a longer (and thicker) seat, do you think your man would do another as I am getting bit nervous tip toeing my bike around when not on the move, also the minor consideration of cost, just nice to know. Cheers Peter
