Misc: Everything Else wiring connection

Just a quick question.
Is the front main light (high or low beam) on ONLY with the engine running?
Stupid question but I'm working on my Comet, speedo ad small like run, rear and brake too.
I can not run the engine.

You should not need the engine running as all electrical items are powered by the battery. The original ignition system does not require a battery and is unswitched.
A previous owner may have fitted an additional switch to lock off the ignition and isolate other loads to stop the battery from being drained while parked.

Do you have the standard magneto or has a coil ignition system been fitted?
