I have many bikes, Norton, Kawasaki, Honda, but no Vincents. Many years ago I worked for a bloke called Jack Ehret who had a couple of Vincents and at one time held the Australian Land Speed Record on a Lightning. I rode the Lightning in 1963 and noticed that it was much faster than my ES2 Norton. I rode it again in 2018 and noticed that it was temperamental and not as fast as my 20 year old 900 Kawasaki.

On a weekend away in 1963 on my Es2 I was passed by a very sick Vincent 2 up, missing and farting and going at least 15mph faster than I was. I am, like a lot of people in awe of the marque especially the Series A, so ugly it is beautiful! The B's and C's were built on worn out and basic equipment and are a credit to their builders' skill and ingenuity, a bike well ahead of it's time in more ways than I could list but strangely using outdated ideas like the oil pump. I am currently restoring a Norton International, not as many parts as a Vincent but just as difficult to assemble correctly!
