Attendees at the 2008 Rocky Mountain Concours d’Elegance, on Labor Day weekend at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado, will have the opportunity to see and learn about these historic – yet ahead of their time – motorbikes for themselves. Two classes, devoted exclusively to Vincent motorcycles, will show examples of the 500 cc single-cylinder models like Comet and Meteor, while another class displays the 1000 cc twin-cylinder models such as Black Shadow, Black Lightning and Rapide.</p><p></p><p>Vincent motorcycles were made in Great Britain from 1928 to 1955. Unlike many bike (and car) manufacturers in those times, Vincent engineers were not content following generally accepted methods or practices, but were constantly “pushing the envelope” to make better performing, more reliable machines, that just happened to be capable of going faster than those of competitors. Hindsight attests that their advances are the blessing of the Vincent heritage to motorcycle engineering, yet also the curse that contributed to the eventual demise of the company – Vincent motorbikes, simply put, were more costly.</p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>Page two</p><p>Vincents at RMCD 2008</p><p></p><p>Rocky Mountain Concours d’Elegance presents a concours within a concours, giving those attendees who are unfamiliar with motorcycle history and development the uncommon opportunity to view these bikes, speak with the owners, read about, and understand Vincent’s contribution and place in the vehicular cosmos. Those already conversant in motorcycle history and lore will be treated to a stellar display of some of the finest representations of the iconic Vincent marque. </p><p>(30)</p><p>About the Rocky Mountain Concours d’Elegance</p><p> The Rocky Mountain Concours d’Elegance is an overflowing Labor Day weekend of activities celebrating vintage and collectible motorcycles, automobiles and the people who revere, maintain, preserve and enjoy them. </p><p> Activities commence on Friday with a welcoming reception. At the conclusion, guests go on to personal dining engagements and the opportunity to renew friendships. Saturday’s schedule commences with the RoadTour during which participants experience the glories of the local geography from the seats of their equally glorious two- and four-wheeled vehicles. The evening activities begin with a ****tail reception followed by the Gala dinner-dance and an auction that offers guests the opportunity to acquire very special and desirable items while simultaneously supporting the Sentinels of Freedom.</p><p> Sunday is “show day”. Cars and motorcycles are placed on the showfield – the West Course of The Broadmoor – prior to the general admission gates opening at 9 am. Attendees are treated to a wide range of vehicles. The judges select a Best of Show from automobile classes ranging from brass era to exotic, that include American and European Classics, period hot rods, American muscle and more. Another Best of Show is selected from the full field of classes of American and European motorcycles. Rocky Mountain Concours d’Elegance actually treats attendees to two concours for the “price” of one. Additionally, there is a third area of the showfield for the peer-judged cars displayed by the Fourteeners (refer to separate release explaining this group).</p><p> Monday sees two flights of golfers take on The Broadmoor’s challenging West Course.
