Note where the front axle is on Mal's bike, and look too at the Joe Simpson bike, not the first picture earlier in this thread, but you can just see in the picture with Marty laying flat out that the axle is not in the normal position. Here is a recent shot of the Simpson bike in the Solvang museum that clearly shows the axle location.

Mal had a banner year in 2011 at Bonneville. For both the SCTA and AMA, he raised the unstreamlined and partial streamlined 1350cc vintage petrol records by close to 40 MPH.

Looks to me like they're tuned for about 8,000 rpm. 175mph on standard gearing....... now where did I put my hacksaw?

He says he had to convince Marty for his rides that that kind of revs was OK. The gearing is taller than standard, so maybe peak HP for 155 mph at ~5000 rpm?

Looks to me like they're tuned for about 8,000 rpm.

I think that is pretty close, I know he regularly takes it high into the 7K range, but I don't know what his actual target RPM is.
