That Bonham's link

http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/20147/lot/425/

includes the following nonsense claim:

"original 'Avon' fairing, which has been on the machine since new. "

Firstly the bike was allegedly made in 1950.

The Avonaire dolphin fairing for Vincents was not available till 1960.

So it could not have been on the bike when new.

PS The reason that a new thread has been started is that the Forum will not accept my replies to existing threads.
Gremlins? Or enemy action?

Why shouldn't the fairing have been on the bike since it was new.The bike had to be several years old but the fairing could have been new when fitted. My WCS Avon has been previously used so I won't be able to claim it has been on since new but if someone buys the one on ebay they will be the first person to fit it, so can make that claim.

Yes Bohams are very good at descriptions you may read it as the bike but it could be the fairing 'from new'
In any case it aint standard so in the current climate I bet it will come off in the rush to follow the 'make it standard or it wont sell....' mantra.

Just fired up Tina the 600 racer . Been making a few changes . Replaced the Andrews Mk 2 with a Robinson made Mk 2 with its mated followers , and retimed ign also . This is a Herve Hamel ign. System . Buttoned up she fired up first kick , shocked us at the ease with which she fired . Immediately had a deep and solid beat , leapt at the throttle . Bitchen loud through its 29 inch long 2 inch pipe .
The motor itself sounded damn near silent mechanically . No timing chest sounds could be heard . No vibration felt so far .
This easy firing from its 40 mm Gardner carb was most satisfying . Compression ratio came out at 9.5 to 1 . Ported out right through to 34 mm . Inlet manifold also 34 mm . Prince barrel with an original twin plugged Vincent head gives a narrow squish band fully around the compact chamber . Custom piston crown designed by Steve Hamel , piston from CP . In fact Steve built this motor for us . Prince tapered wheels crankshaft , two speed oil pump . Most beautiful internals you ever saw . Jeeez , like chrome everywhere . Ain't this fun ! Sid .
