Might be a good idea, if you know when to stop tightening.

Ahhh HA! Thats an easy one...When it stops leaking....Or when the threads pull out of the head then you KNOW it is time to stop..lol

With the oring I would turn in the gland till it seats and the another 1/2 turn if it still weaps take it up 1/8-1/4 till it stops..

Thanks,
Eric

I tried O-rings and they never stopped leaking, although the quantity leaking out did increase with tightening, so I went back to the original. I know others who have had good results with them.

Then you have the problem of the nut unscrewing.

I would never recommend something I have not tried first and I have found that 'o' rings work well as the lower seal here. No leaks, unscrewing or whatever.
